Within less than a 30-minute drive of Tumut, you’ll find incredible rivers where wild trout thrive. A little further afield, the Kosciuszko National Park offers breathtaking high country fly fishing, where you can sight fish for beautifully conditioned rainbow and brown trout in clear, cold streams.
As the season progresses, you can target trout in their different habitats—from fast-moving riffles during the warmer months to the famous “spawn run towards season’s end, when large trout migrate from lakes into rivers. This migration presents a rare opportunity to hook trophy-sized fish in perfect fishing conditions.
